Did you know? - DD related FAQs

Mon Feb 17, 2014, 9:30 AM
Daily Deviations (DDs) are a topic full of controversy. To raise awareness of what a DD really is and how people should act in case they disagree, let's take a closer look at the DD related FAQs.

FAQ #18: Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen?

This FAQ, as well as the group communityrelations, is your #1 resource for figuring out the right Community Volunteer or Staff member for your DD suggestions.
Additionally this FAQ lists some guidelines that apply for all possible DDs.

FAQ #61: What is a Daily Deviation?

There is a lot of misconception floating around about what Daily Deviations are or should be. This FAQ gives you the explanation you should stick to.

Also keep in mind that nothing like "masterpiece", "best of the best", "perfect" or similar appears among the DD description.
DDs can be quite simple or extremely complex and detailed. They represent different styles, categories/galleries and media. Not every DD will be something you agree with. In that case, see further below.

FAQ #313: How can I find out if someone already has a Daily Deviation?

Knowing if a deviant already has gotten any DDs is epecially helpful if you are going to suggest someone for it. There is the 6-months-rule which means an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
Of course you can still suggest them, even though they just recently got a one, but then it might takes a while until the DD will be given and this will help you to figure out, why your suggestion was not taken into consideration yet.

FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?

We all have been there, that we went to take a look at the recent DDs and saw something we absolutely didn't like or agreed with.
While it is ok to express that in a matured way or leave constructive critique that you don't like the artwork and explain why, you shouldn't start blaming the artist for anything. Especially not for getting the DD.

Always try to imagine how you would feel when you see a lot of negative comments (sometimes even beyond all good manners) for an artwork of yours, even though it was not your fault for getting in the center of attention.

Talk to the CV who gave the DD or contact Moonbeam13 about it instead.

Especially if you are unhappy with the DDs that get selected, you should make use of suggesting deviations or deviants that you think should get more attention.

You choose an artwork you want to suggest, then you look up the right CV for that category here FAQ #18: Who selects Daily Deviations and how are they chosen? and then you write them a note with the thumb of that deviation and a reason why you think it should get a DD.

Always a good topic to cover.

You might want to mention the 6 months between DDs rule. That would be the main reason for checking to see if someone has had a DD prior to suggeeting them, right?

Great article, these cannot be reiterated enough.  I hate seeing negative comments "this sucks" "you don't deserve..." on a DD.  It's not nice anywhere.  It's just mean, would people say this to someone's face?  Or if an artist were featured in a magazine, would they complain to the artist that they shouldn't have been interviewed?  No, that sounds ridiculous.  The Daily Deviation is basically an art mag feature that is curated by several people every day.

I think in most cases it is jealousy combined with the frustration you deal with that moment or because your art doesn't get enough attention.
If you take a closer look most people who complain look for the most stupid reasons to cause drama and to ruin the day of the DD receiver. But i doubt this will ever change...

Or maybe they are just rude ;P  It is so easy to look at a DD and think, why was that featured?  But it is just as easy to scroll on down and look at something else without commenting on your disapproval.
