Since I have become a Gallery Moderator I stumbled across a few questions again and again. Now that it is time to learn new things and to make you less confused, let's take a look at all those things that get asked quite often.

If you think that something important is missing here feel free to tell me about and I will add it to this collection, to make sure it will help as many people as possible!

:bulletgreen: Journal/Blog and Gallery CSS

:pointr: Do I need a Premium Membership to be able to use Journal or Gallery CSS skins?
Yes, without being a Premium Member you don't have the ability to apply CSS to your submitted journals or gallery folders.
However you are still able to install them or to see how your journal would look like in the preview.
The only exception to this are Senior Members, they can use CSS without a Premium Membership.

:pointr: I want to skin my gallery, but I don't have any CSS option there. Why?
Either you are not a Premium Member and can't use CSS, or you might try to add CSS to the featured folder. That won't work. You have to be inside a custom folder to apply any skin.

:pointr: Can I customize my journal even without a Premium Membership?
Yes, but you are limited to what you can do. With the help of plz-accounts you will be able to customize your page a bit more though.
Details about what you can do, can be found here: nonpremiumstyle.deviantart.com…

:pointr: I installed a free skin template, but can't add it to my group. Why?
The install option was just made for the journals of regular deviants, not for the blogs of groups. So if you found a nice skin, click install to get access to the code via your journal page. You then have to copy and paste everything from your journal to the groups page.
That's the only way – except writing the CSS from scratch – to add CSS to any blog.

:pointr: Often I hear something of "Gruze" and the "old structure". What is that?
When deviantART changed it's layout it also got a new code structure, if you are familiar to code and take a closer look at this, you can always find the word gruze in the source code. So "Gruze" just refers to the new code structure elements.
For journal/blog CSS it means that there have been new elements added and the structure was slightly changed. When working on templates you have to decide if you want to go for one or the other. "Gruze" is the newer and maybe a bit more complex version, while the "old structure" is what we had before.
A help might be this overview, that shows you the differences between both: ginkgografix.deviantart.com/ar…

:bulletgreen: Stamps

:pointr: I want to use stamps in my journal, how can I do that?
You need to use the thumbcode of the stamp you want to add to your journal. You can find it below a deviation at the right side(next to the comments). But to use thumbs you will need a Premium Membership.

:pointr: Can I use stamps in comments as well?
No, stamps are limited to the journal, deviation descriptions and the widgets with whom you can customize your pages as well.
But you have the chance to use plz-stamps. That are stamps converted to avatars.
More details can be found here: plzstamps.deviantart.com/

:bulletgreen: Other

:pointr: I saw people using all kind of backgrounds and fancy buttons on their widgets. How can I do that as well?
Before you start customizing and widget keep in mind that it is technically a bug, so you won't get any official support for it and the "feature" might be gone anytime soon. More about that can be read here: communityops.deviantart.com/bl…
If you still want to go own customizing your page, you should check the "deviantART related > Devious Fun > Misc" gallery. There you can find lots of useful resources that help you to style your widgets.

:pointr: Where does the picture I want to use for my webcam that has nothing related to dA go?
Pictures that are used for the webcam widget are usually hosted at any other site than deviantART, like for example Photobucket.
When using an image make sure that you are allowed to link to it.

:pointr: What exactly goes in the "User Styles" gallery?
Opposite to what most people would assume the "User Styles" gallery is not about your own personal style. It does not relate to the way your draw or paint. It does not refer to the way you style yourself or anything else.
"User Styles" is CSS code that was made by deviants to be used by other deviants. So it just means that it are deviations that style deviant art and each user can decide on their own if they want/need it or not.

I think senior members can use journal skins even without a premium membership... or that's what I heard a couple of times.
